It seems strange that only months ago I wrote comparison between Code Geass and Gundam SEED characters’ personal traits (in Indonesian) and found quite a bunch of similarities. Now, we have the newest Gundam protagonist bears identical fate to his counterpart in FMP. You bet — it’s the seem-aloof, cool-wannabe Setsuna F. Seiei from Gundam 00. 
Overusing stock-characters? Sunrise’s being uncreative? Or, perhaps, just series of coincidence?
God knows.

To those who don’t know, Sergeant Sousuke Sagara featured as a soldier of MITHRIL in Full Metal Panic! series (first aired in 2002). His journey of life was as told. Born Japanese, he was child-survivor of a plane crash, whom then raised by an Afghani mujaheed family. Later on, he joined the neutral mercenary force MITHRIL as hired soldier — thus given personal-designated mecha ARX-7 Arbalest.
On the contrary, Setsuna Seiei was militian child in the war-torn Kurdish Republic in the currently-running Mobile Suit Gundam 00. Later he joined Celestial Being, a private-funded paramilitary organization, whose goal to stop wars and region clashes in modern world. He was then given cockpit seat of GN-001 Gundam Exia, a humanoid mecha suitable for melee battle.
There you have it.

What worries me is that the Gundam Sagara-wannabe looks like a scrawny boy, bishonen-style. So unlike the sergeant.
It’s akin to casting Lucky Perdana as a lead in an Indonesian cheap ripoff of Rambo, instead of, Tora Sudiro, for an instance. Blech, I wince just thinking of it.
nggak pernah nonton beginian. punya DVDnya, tapi ga pernah ditonton…

eh tapi pertama kali liat, gw ngga langsung mengasosiasikan Sousuke ama Setsuna loh. Mungkin ambience nya beda kali yah.Perawakan juga gak mirip2 amat.
Sousuke tolol.Sableng.Freak.
Setsuna emo.Sableng.Freak.
Dipikir2 lagi mirip juga.
Tapi pernah diadain penelitian, bahwa anak autis jago men-dodge serangan musuh pada waktu maen video game perang2an (anak itu terus menghindari tembakan tanpa menyerang balik). kesimpulannya anak autis jadi pilot Gundam memang pilihan terbaik^o^.

Ah, tapi Sousuke yang di TSR jadi terlalu care sama Kaname. Jauh lebih keren pas dia di Fumoffu, IMHO.

Now you got what I mean.
Well, he’s bishonen, cool-wannabe, sloppy, has a bad hairdo, and has bad attitude. Our Sgt. Sagara may slightly look bishounen, but he has more manly and in-depth characteristics a soldier should have.
That Setsuna just doesn’t have it right.
I’d refer to that “Dr. Fritz” of that Indonesian takeoff from “One Litre of Tears”. Dramatic change as well.

Euh, bukan… ini bukan Gundam SEED. Ini tentang Gundam baru, Gundam 00. ^^
Gundam itu metaseries, jadi kelanjutannya biasanya nggak berhubungan sama serial sebelumnya (e.g. Final Fantasy).

Ya iya lah. Ambience-nya beda. Sousuke itu tentara yang gahar, berotot, dan bisa bertempur sama baiknya dengan atau tanpa mecha. Setsuna itu tampang anak manja sok-cool yang pengen nyari penggemar.

Bukan, itu namanya menuruti selera pasar. Para pilot Gundam itu dipilihin yang autis, soalnya cewek-cewek Jepang emang tergila-gila sama tipikal cowok cool…
Dari jamannya Cloud sampe Squall sampe tokoh manga shoujo sebangsanya Kugyou Kouki, semuanya kan (IMHO) tipikal cowok gak-ramah rada autis.

Even they have Gauron look-alike in Ali’s character (being psychopath and such). One wonders about how much FMP being poured in there, IMHO.
